Gelsenkirchen decided not to offer a contract to veteran goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.
The German club considered the possibility of bringing in the 41-year-old footballer, who retired last year, but represented London's Arsenal team in the last few months.
"We have Ralf Fahrmann, Mathias Schober, and Lars Unnerstall, with whom we will work in preparation for the season," said Schalke manager Ralf Rangnick. "Acquiring another goalkeeper would not be sensible neither in sporting nor financial terms."
The main goalkeeper position should be occupied by Fahrmann, who was acquired after Manuel Neuer moved to Bayern Munich.
