Furthering their squad for the upcoming season, Liverpool has officially confirmed the acquisition of Birmingham defender Stewart Downing for nearly 23 million euros.
The 26-year-old footballer will soon travel to Liverpool, where he will negotiate personal contract terms and undergo a medical examination.
The England international will become Liverpool's third purchase this summer, following the earlier acquisitions of defenders Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam.
Downing has long expressed his desire to join the 'Reds', but Aston Villa rejected the first two offers of 14 and 17 million euros. However, negotiations eventually resulted in a mutually satisfactory agreement.
It was reported that London's Arsenal also showed interest in the player, who scored seven goals and provided as many assists in 38 matches in the English championship last season.
