The Lithuanian national football team can be happy with a smiling Fortuna - our country's football players will have to compete in the 2014 World Cup qualifying cycle against significantly less known opponents compared to elite national teams in the qualifying tournament.
Raimondas Žutautas' students from the strongest basket had to face the 2004 European champions Greece, from the second - the Slovaks who fought in the last World Cup, from the third - the usually unfavorable Balkan representatives Bosnia. Our national team will also meet with neighbors Latvia after a long break and will have the opportunity to revenge against Liechtenstein, whom they lost to in the continuing Old Continent qualifying tournament.
The group winners will automatically qualify for the World Cup, and the 8 best second-placed teams will compete for four additional tickets.
The qualifying cycle will run from September 7, 2012, to October 15, 2013.
