The best German footballer of the year magazine "Kicker" has chosen goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

This summer, the footballer who moved from Gelzenkirchen's "Schalke" to Munich's "Bayern" collected 210 journalist votes and surpassed the most productive "Bundesliga" player Mario Gomez (190).

In third place was Nuri Sahin, representing Dortmund's "Borussia" (142). At the beginning of the summer, he shook hands with Madrid's "Real".

Neuer became the first goalkeeper since 2001 to win this award. Back then, it was presented to the famous Oliver Kahn.

"I am surprised because players in my position rarely win. It's a great honor," said Neuer.
