ormer Japanese footballer Naoki Matsuda, who lost consciousness during training a few days ago, passed away.

The 34-year-old player, who represented his country 40 times, was taken to the hospital on Tuesday, but never regained consciousness.

"It's a tragedy when someone passes away at such a young age," said former Japan team coach Philippe Troussier. "It's a huge shock. Naoki was a great guy, and we had a close relationship."

Recently, Matsuda had been wearing the jersey of the "Matsumoto" club in the second division of Japan.
