In accordance with the decision of the sports arbitrage court in Lauzanne, the six-week disqualification of Italian club defender Philippe Mexes comes into force.
Last September, FIFA disqualified Mexes for signing a four-year contract with "Roma" while still having a valid contract with his previous club.
The 22-year-old player claimed that he could move to another club by paying the 4 million euro fee specified in the contract, but the French club disputed this fact and the case was brought before FIFA, which decided to allow the footballer to move to the Italian team, but at the same time disqualify him for breaking the contract.
After "Roma" appealed to the sports arbitrage court, the latter temporarily suspended the disqualification in order to further examine the situation, and finally announced its decision today.
Mexes, who has not been performing well this season, will have to miss the next five matches against "Livorno", "Palermo", "Juventus", "Cagliari" and "Milan" before returning to the team on April 3rd against "Udinese".
By the way, in the upcoming Sunday match against "Livorno", the Frenchman would not have been able to play anyway, as he received his second yellow card and was sent off the field for a rough foul against the opponent during the last minute of the match against "Inter" last weekend.
