On Saturday afternoon, the 2011-2012 season of the English Premier League began.
An impressive goal from Sunderland's newcomer Sebastian Larsson allowed the club to secure a 1-1 draw away at Liverpool.
The hosts dominated the first half and could have taken the lead after just 5 minutes, but Luis Suarez's shot from the penalty spot was very inaccurate. The Uruguayan himself earned the penalty when he took the ball and jumped past the goalkeeper, forcing the opponent's defender Kieran Richardson to commit a foul.
However, in the 12th minute, the forward corrected his mistake by sending the ball into the net after a pass from Charlie Adam.
Despite this, Liverpool failed to solidify their advantage and paid dearly for it - Larsson equalized with a great shot in the 56th minute.
The Liverpool team tried to launch a decisive attack and snatch the victory, but they failed to break through the opponent's defense for a second time.
In their debut in the top league, Queens Park Rangers lost 0-4 at home to Bolton.
Gary Cahill put the visitors ahead at the end of the first half, and after the break, Danny Gabbidon scored an own goal, doubling the opponent's advantage.
Ivan Klasnic scored the third goal, and Fabrice Muamba sealed the victory.
