Meanwhile, Portuguese Andre Villas Boas arrived in England as a strategist promoting attacking football, but he will have to work hard in the Premier League to replicate the success of the previous season. This was evident in the first match of the season, where the team led by the young coach from Chelsea failed to break through the "Stoke" defense - the game ended in a goalless draw.
In the first half, neither team created any clear scoring opportunities, but after the break, Chelsea's game intensified.
Midfielder John Obi Mikel came close to scoring, and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic saved Nicolas Anelka's shot in front of 27,000 spectators.
However, "Chelsea" rarely posed a real threat to the opponents' goal throughout the 90 minutes and had to settle for a draw.
