Yesterday (Wednesday), when most European fans' attention was focused on the UEFA Europa League matches, the only remaining second leg matches of the Spanish King's Cup (Copa del Rey) quarterfinals were played in Spain between Madrid's "Atletico" and "Numancia" teams.

The first leg in Soria ended without any goals, so the final Cup semifinalist had to be determined at the "Vicente Calderon" stadium.

Although "Atletico" seemed better than their opponents throughout the match, the only goal was scored in the 66th minute from the penalty spot by Spanish national team striker Fernando Torres.

The draw to determine the semifinal pairings will take place on Friday. As the Spanish football giants were eliminated earlier from this competition, "Athletic Bilbao", Seville's "Betis", Pamplona's "Osasuna", and of course, Atletico Madrid are all competing for the title.
