London's Arsenal defender Alex Song and forward Gervinho have been suspended for three matches for inappropriate behavior during the English Premier League match against Newcastle.
The 24-year-old newcomer Gervinho struck opponent midfielder Joey Barton in the face and the referee sent him off the field. In that episode, Barton was shown a yellow card, as he got into a conflict with Gervinho when he allegedly simulated a foul in the penalty area trying to win a penalty kick.
Meanwhile, Song will be forced to rest because Barton likely stepped on his foot intentionally. The referee did not notice this situation and did not punish the player.
Arsenal agrees with the punishment for Song, but will appeal the decision regarding Gervinho.
Additionally, both the London and Newcastle clubs will have to pay fines of nearly 30,000 euros for the players' misconduct.
