Footballers and coaches were outraged at the scandalous behavior of Madrid's strategist Jose Mourinho in the return match of the Spanish Super Cup.
Catalans won the match 3-2 and claimed the trophies, but just before the final whistle, a massive conflict arose. Mourinho actively participated in it as well, approaching from behind and poking his finger at one of the opponent's coaches, Tito Vilanova.
"Mourinho is destroying Spanish football," said Barcelona defender Gerard Pique. "It's not the first time something like this has happened, and the same players are always involved. There must be a way to stop this because every match cannot end like this."
The incident occurred after Marcelo unnecessarily roughed up Barcelona's midfielder Cesc Fabregas in the middle of the field. The referee sent off the "Real" defender from the field, but after the scuffle, he showed red cards to two more players: Barcelona's representative David Villa and Madrid's defender Mesut Ozil.
"Real" should be concerned about the image they create," added Xavi. "There is no place for Marcelo's actions in football. This is a shameful episode, just like the image Madrid's club creates."
"The images speak for themselves. If this continues, the end will be very sad," concluded Spain's champions' coach Pep Guardiola, who won his 11th trophy with the team and impressed the legendary Dutchman Johan Cruyff.
