The Spanish champions took the lead in the first half, when Lionel Messi intercepted the ball after a careless pass from Fredy Guarin and beat goalkeeper Helton.
As the game approached its end, Porto defender Rolando was sent off the field for a second yellow card, and soon after Fabregas doubled the lead. To make matters worse, the Portuguese team finished the match with only nine players - Guarin received a red card.
