The head coach of the leaders of the English Championship, Jose Mourinho, does not rule out the possibility that the London club will try to acquire Sevilla star Joaquin this summer or winter.
It was thought that the Spanish national team right-back could leave "Betis" as early as last January. Among the contenders, Chelsea was in the first place, but Joaquin was also wanted by Real Madrid, Manchester United, and several top Italian clubs.
It is said that the transfer fee for the 23-year-old right-back ranged around 20 million pounds sterling, but Sevilla unexpectedly stated that they would not sell the player at least until the summer. "Betis" decision is linked to the fact that the club currently occupies fifth place in the Spanish Championship and realistically aims for a place guaranteeing the right to play in the UEFA Champions League next year.
"Nothing can be ruled out - perhaps we will try to acquire him in June or December," said Mourinho.
Mourinho also spoke about his admiration for Barcelona defender Xavi's game: "My favorite player at Barca is Xavi. I like him because I saw (Mourinho was Bobby Robson's assistant at Barcelona - ed.), how he progressed. Xavi is a fantastic player, but for some reason the coach undervalues him."
