Diego Forlan will sign a contract with Milan in the near future.
The Uruguayan, who has worn the Madrid jersey for four years, will replace Samuel Eto'o in the Italian team, who has left for Anzhi Makhachkala.
"Diego is negotiating with Inter, everyone knows that. It is expected that the deal will be reached in a few hours," said Atletico coach Gregorio Manzano.
Forlan missed Thursday's Europa League match with Vitoria Guimaraes in order to continue negotiations with Inter.
Last season in the Spanish championship, he scored eight goals in 32 matches.
