Around 8 million euros was spent on acquiring "Nacional" club defender Sebastian Coates.
The 20-year-old footballer performed well in the summer "Copa America" tournament and signed a long-term contract.
Coates was also sought after by Ukraine's "Dnipro" and Spain's Madrid "Atletico", but he himself did not hide his desire to move to Liverpool, where he would play alongside compatriot Luis Suarez.
The tall center-back became the sixth summer purchase for Liverpool after Doni, Jose Enrique, Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, and Stewart Downing.
It is likely that the team may be further strengthened by a new forward.
