During the last moments of the summer transfer window in London, Raul Meireles was acquired by Chelsea for almost 15 million euros.
The 28-year-old Portuguese national team member, just an hour before the end of the transfer deadline, requested in writing to be sold and, after formalities were completed, signed a four-year contract with Chelsea.
Meireles arrived at Liverpool last summer and became one of the team's leaders. In the English Premier League, he played 32 matches and scored five goals.
However, this summer, Liverpool added several midfielders to their team: Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, so Meireles' chances of regular playing time decreased.
Currently, Meireles is recovering from an injury and should return to the field in about a week.
