Rio Ferdinand will miss the first Champions League match against Lisbon's "Benfica".
The center-back, who recently recovered from an injury, was given a rest as he played the full 90 minutes on Saturday.
Another main center-back Nemanja Vidic will also not play, so in the center it is likely that Jonny Evans and Phil Jones will defend.
