Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo insists that the fans of Zagreb's "Dinamo" who booed him simply expressed their envy.
The Spanish vice-champions secured a hard-fought victory away from home with a score of 1-0. The only goal in the second half was scored by Angel Di Maria.
"They behaved like that because I am handsome, rich, and a great footballer. These people envy that. I have no other explanation," said the Portuguese to the newspaper "Marca."
C.Ronaldo also criticized the referee from Norway, Oddvar Moen, saying that after the match the medics had to stitch up his bleeding shin.
"The referee worked shamefully. It's a pity because referees say they need to protect the most technical players, but some can't be touched while others constantly foul against me," he complained.
And he added: "I hope this referee will not whistle at our matches anymore, because he is shameful."
