Four matches were played in the English Premier League on Sunday.
Wayne Rooney scored his ninth goal of the season as Manchester United defeated Chelsea 3-1 at home in a match full of twists.
Both teams demonstrated open football, and fans witnessed not only many goals but also a plethora of wasted excellent opportunities.
The most memorable moment was Fernando Torres's shot that went wide near the end of the game. The Spaniard found himself alone against the goalkeeper and missed the target in a mystical way. In the first half, after Torres's pass to the unmarked goal, Ramires also took a shot, but the Brazilian's attempt was too weak and David De Gea managed to make an excellent save.
However, not only Chelsea players made mistakes, but also stars from Manchester United: Rooney missed a penalty kick by slipping, and Dimitar Berbatov's shot from the goal line was blocked by a defender.
The first goal of the match came after 7 minutes when Chris Smalling headed the ball into Petr Cech's net after a free kick.
Chelsea did not falter and attacked dangerously, but at the end of the first half, they unfairly conceded two more goals: Nani scored with an impressive long shot, and after defensive errors and ricochets, Rooney scored another goal.
However, at the start of the second half, Torres reduced the deficit for Chelsea with a skillful shot, but he missed a chance to equalize by failing to score into an empty net.
London's Tottenham claimed an easy victory in front of their own fans, defeating Liverpool 4-0, who finished the match with nine men after two players were sent off. Charlie Adam received the first yellow card before the 30-minute mark, and defender Martin Skrtel had to leave the field under similar circumstances in the first half of the second half.
It was Liverpool's most painful defeat in the Premier League in over eight years.
Tottenham started the match successfully and took the lead in the 7th minute when Luka Modric scored an impressive goal from distance. Liverpool failed to find a rhythm, and Adam's dismissal complicated things in the 28th minute.
Although the visitors failed to create chances, they kept hope alive by the fact that Tottenham struggled to solidify their advantage for a long time.
However, the match was decided in the 63rd minute when Skrtel, who was making many mistakes, had to leave the field after a needless error.
Tottenham did not waste time capitalizing on the two-player advantage: Jermain Defoe scored in the 66th minute, and soon after a glaring error by goalkeeper Pepe Reina - the Spaniard failed to catch the ball after a competitor's shot - allowed Emmanuel Adebayor to score an easy goal.
It was Togo's striker who finished the opponent's rout, scoring for the fourth time during added time after the referee.
