Ralf Rangnick resigned from the position of head coach in Gelsenkirchen due to health problems.
"After much consideration, I have decided that I need a break," the specialist said. "Resigning is certainly not easy, but the energy I have now is not enough for successful work and the improvement of the club.
I hope that this decision will have a positive impact on the team - I wish them the greatest success this season."
In the German championship, after six rounds, "Schalke" is in ninth place with three wins.
After working for just half a year, Rangnick will be temporarily replaced by assistants: Josef Eichkorn and Markus Gisdol.
