In the only Monday England Premier League match, Norwich beat Sunderland 2-1 at home.
The hosts, who secured their first victory in front of their own fans, took the lead in the 31st minute when Leon Barnett sent the ball into the net after a pass from Elliott Bennett.
Shortly after, in the other half of the field, the goalkeeper saved a shot from Nicklas Bendtner, and soon after the break Norwich doubled their advantage: Steve Morison scored.
After playing an hour, the guests woke up, but the hosts held on despite Kieran Richardson reducing the gap from long range in the 86th minute.
