Guardiola: by signing a long-term contract, I lost passion to work © EuroFootball.com

Pep Guardiola says that every day, thinking about stepping down from coaching duties gives him a new motivation to strive.

The 40-year-old specialist's contract will expire next summer. So far, he has rejected the possibility of signing a long-term contract.

"Every day I think that tomorrow I will step down. When you are a coach, you have to think like that," Guardiola told the newspaper "Sport."

"I manage to work better when I know that I have the freedom to decide about my future. If I had a long-term contract, it wouldn't bother me, and maybe I would lose my passion."

Under the leadership of the Spaniard, the "Barcelona" team won three Spanish championship titles and triumphed twice in the Champions League.

Asked what he plans to do in the future, Guardiola said: "I really don't know. If the club wants, and I feel inclined, I will stay. If I am fired, I will take on another job.

There will come a day when I finally realize that I have to leave my footballers, and they - that they need a new coach."
