The doors of the Kiev Olympic Stadium, where the European Championship final will take place next year, have been opened.

The 70,000-seat arena was opened by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who was accompanied by booing from the audience, and the famous singer Shakira, who performed a 40-minute show.

The stadium underwent a major reconstruction, costing about 585 million euros. It will host five matches of the Continental Cup.

"This will be one of the top 10 stadiums in Europe. It is an arena where all the latest technologies are implemented, and we can also host representatives of other sports," said football federation president Grigory Surkis.

The first match in Kiev will be held on November 11, when Ukraine will host Germany in a friendly match.
