Rafael Benitez rejected the opportunity to become the new head coach of Gelsenkirchen.
According to "El Confidencial", the German team offered the Spaniard the position after Ralf Rangnick stepped down from his duties at the end of September.
However, the 51-year-old Benitez declined, citing his desire to coach a club that has real chances to compete for trophies. Additionally, his priority is the English Premier League.
Huub Stevens was appointed as the coach of Schalke instead of Benitez.
