Czech national team coach Michal Bílek was happy with the result and the opportunity to fight for a spot in the final stage of the European Championship after the victory against Lithuania.
The Czechs finished second in Group I and will fight in the play-offs.
"We knew that failure would mean the end of the qualification cycle. This time we were particularly lucky at the start, as we scored a penalty in the first minutes," said Bílek.
"Later, we took advantage of set pieces and executed combinations prepared in training. The defensive line performed well: Jaroslav Plašil, Václav Pilař. Although we complicated the situation in the second half when we had a player sent off, the match was successful.
"We are happy to have scored four goals. Winning in Kaunas is not easy, and we felt the pressure because the match was very important. We also had to watch the result in Spain, but everything ended well."
The Czech Republic finished the match without defender Roman Hubník: "The card was undeserved, but every player has to take responsibility. It's a shame, but we will have to find solutions."
Speaking about future perspectives, Bílek was brief: "We were focused on this match, we didn't think about the future. Choosing an opponent in the play-offs doesn't make sense, as everyone deserves respect.
"So far, we have only partially achieved our goal of qualifying for the European Championship. However, Spain was a clear favorite, so we were fighting for second place."
