In the FIFA world football team rankings, the Lithuanian national team continues to rapidly decline. Losing another ten positions, our country's team is currently in 85th place.
Last week, the Lithuanians lost a home game to the Czech Republic 1-4, placing as low as they did at the end of 2007, when they were in 90th place.
At that time, the first place was maintained by the reigning world and European champion Spain, ahead of the Netherlands, Germany, Uruguay, and the newly risen Brazil in fifth place.
Our neighbors, Estonia, who will compete in the playoffs for a spot in the finals of the Old Continent, dropped one position and are now in 59th place. Latvia is in 75th place.
Other opponents of the Lithuanian national team in the 2014 World Cup qualification cycle include Greece in 8th place, Bosnia in 21st, Slovakia in 41st, and Liechtenstein in 126th.
