UEFA has banned smoking and advertising tobacco products in stadiums during the 2012 European Championship. According to the announcement, the ban will be effective in both Poland and Ukraine, where the competition will take place.

Michel Platini, the president of UEFA, justified the decision by the need to protect the health of the audience. In addition, the cities hosting the championship will be encouraged to ban smoking in public transport, restaurants, and fan zones.

The decision was made in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the European Union.

The European Championship will start on June 8, 2012, and will end on July 1.
