The final of the 2014 World Championship will be held at the legendary Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the second largest in the world, announced FIFA.

The stadium, which opened its doors in 1950, is currently being renovated at a cost of 660 million dollars (1.66 billion Lt) and will be able to accommodate about 85 thousand fans when it reopens.

It is worth noting that the opening match of the tournament will take place on June 12th at the "Sao Paulo" arena, while the decisive match will be held on July 13th.

Brazilian politicians are also reassuring FIFA representatives, who are concerned about slow preparation pace - work has not even started at five out of the 13 airports that will receive hundreds of thousands of fans. In addition, the state has committed to investing 11.4 billion dollars (28.8 billion Lt) in road repairs, security measures, and improvement of the telecommunications infrastructure.
