The prestigious award "Golden Boot" was presented to the star of Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo, for being the most productive footballer in European national championships.
Portugal received recognition for scoring 40 goals in 38 matches in the Spanish championship last season.
The award was presented to the footballer by his compatriot Eusebio and the honorary president of "Real," Alfredo Di Stefano.
"Even though I would exchange this award for the Spanish champion title or Champions League trophies," said C. Ronaldo. "Individual prizes are won only with the help of teammates. I would like to achieve something more important with the team. I don't think about records, only about 'Real.' I think we are more mature this season, so we must focus only on one goal - victories."
The "Golden Boot" was awarded to the forward for the second time in his career - he also received it in 2008 while representing "Man Utd." At that time, he scored 31 goals in the English championship.
Speaking about the competition with "Barcelona" leader L. Messi, C. Ronaldo added: "I don't think about it. I love to compete, people enjoy watching me, so there's no need to change anything. It's great to compete with the best."
In second place was Lionel Messi (31 goals), in third - Istanbul's "Fenerbahce" leader Alex (28). The winner is determined not by goals but by points, which are calculated by multiplying the number of goals by the league coefficient. The most powerful national championships are evaluated with a coefficient of 2, slightly weaker ones - 1.5, the weakest - 1.
So far this season, the top spot in the ranking belongs to the forward of Estonia's Narva "Trans" club, Aleksandrs Čekulajevs. In 34 matches, the Latvian scored an impressive 45 goals. However, since the coefficient of the Estonian championship is 1, the chances of winning the award are minimal.
