Football leaders of Vilnius County urge Varanavičiai and Kvedara to withdraw © EuroFootball.com

Vilnius district football officials have circulated a letter calling for the resignation of the leaders of the Lithuanian Football Federation, L. Varanavičius and J. Kvedaras (language not edited):

"The ambiguous situation that has arisen leads to the conclusion that Lithuanian football and all football-loving people in Lithuania have become your hostages, gentlemen, of incompetence or deliberate behavior that has been continuing for a decade. We believe that the actions of the leadership of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) are, to put it mildly, in conflict with the stated goal of the federation, enshrined in the LFF's statutes - to prevent all methods and actions that could raise suspicions about the integrity, transparency, or reputation of matches or competitions, or in any way harm the image of LFF or football as a sport, while the federation itself does not serve football and its community.

It is obvious that your activities are already causing concern even to people who are not directly related to football and had no reason to think that you are only capable of manipulating the LFF statutes and a group of loyal friends with the aim of remaining in office for as long as possible; that you are unable or unwilling to address the issue of unfair referees helping one team or another when needed; that your "pride" in the results of Lithuanian youth is disconnected from reality. Also, about the ways in which you were selected and re-selected. This list could go on.

The events of recent days and your behavior show complete disregard for the football community and everyone else, and talk of your planned trip to Mr. Ramzan Kadyrov, who, like a movie character - a leader of an African tribe, boasts a golden pistol, reflects either your disrespect for important values of our nation, or simply your ignorance. In both cases, this behavior is shameful and intolerable.

Knowing you, gentlemen, we have no hope that in the current situation you will act honorably and resign, therefore, feeling obligated and responsible to the football community and the future of football in our country, we are forced to use the only opportunity we have - not to remain silent.

Signed by the President of the Vilnius District Football Federation Rita Vaiginas and Vice President Rimantas Turskis."
