The goalkeeper of the team, Sebastien Frejus, told the newspaper "Gazzetta dello Sport" that this would be his last season at Parma and that he would leave the struggling club next summer.
Although the Frenchman still has two years left on his contract with Parma, he wants to test himself at a higher level, play for a stronger team, and compete for titles.
"This is my last season at Parma. This year I sacrificed myself because everyone knows the poor situation the club is in," Frejus said. "I feel good here and my contract is valid until 2007, but I won't deny that I want to try to achieve something important. I think I deserve it."
24-year-old Frejus is one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in Europe, and he has attracted interest from major English clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as Inter Milan. It was at Inter Milan where the player began his career as a foreign legionary, but after three years, he was sold to Parma.
"I still have a house in Como, and my wife is a fan of Inter. It would be great to return, as I was still young and immature back then. Although now I have respect from Massimo Moratti (Inter's owner), it's still hard to even think about it. I notice the problems that Toldo is facing, as as soon as he makes a mistake, he gets heavily criticized," the goalkeeper said.
The Frenchman doesn't rule out the possibility of moving to England, but he says he would rather stay where he has been living and playing for the past seven years: "The idea of England is interesting, no doubt Manchester United is a strong club, but over all these years, I have grown attached to Italy."
