President of the Ukio Bank Investment Group Vladimir Romanov claims that only clubs associated with the mafia can operate profitably in football.
The entrepreneur from Lithuania confirmed that he is withdrawing from football and selling Edinburgh Hearts, which he has managed for six years, as well as Minsk Partizan and Kaunas Kaunas.
There were reports in the media that the decision, at least in the case of Hearts, was influenced by losses, but Romanov denied this.
"The yellow press wants to pick on me, but they have no basis, so they fool their readers. Blaming me for a club's lack of profit is the same as blaming a person who donates to charity. There are no profitable clubs, except those involved with football mafia and deceiving fans," Romanovas wrote in the newspaper "Diena.lt".
