The attempted suicide of a referee canceled a German championship match © EuroFootball.com

On Saturday, the German championship match between the clubs "Koln" and "Mainz" was canceled.

According to an official statement, this decision was made because the referee Babak Rafati did not show up at the stadium. A replacement for him could not be found in a very short amount of time.

According to the newspaper "Kolner Express," the 41-year-old referee attempted suicide. He was found in a hotel with cut veins.

There is no information on Rafati's health condition at the moment. Interestingly, the Iranian-born referee started his career in the highest league six years ago, and his first refereed match was between "Koln" and "Mainz".

A new date for the match has not been set yet.
