In the English Premier League on Saturday, eight matches were played.
Manchester City players continue to play relentlessly, this time defeating the previously unbeaten Newcastle team at home with a score of 3-1.
The first half ended particularly poorly for the visitors: after a handball by Ryan Taylor, Mario Balotelli converted a penalty in the 41st minute, and soon after the same defender's mistake, Micah Richards doubled the lead.
In the 72nd minute, Sergio Aguero secured the advantage by converting the penalty earned by Richards, and Dan Gosling's late goal was only a small consolation for the Newcastle team.
However, the gap was not allowed to widen for the league leader Manchester United, as they defeated Swansea away thanks to a goal by Javier Hernandez.
London's Arsenal club secured their tenth victory in 12 recent matches in all competitions by defeating Norwich 2-1 away.
As has become customary, the impressive performance by Robin van Persie decided the victory, scoring both goals and increasing his tally in the English top-flight to 31 goals in 2011.
The Dutch striker scored his first goal after a pass from Theo Walcott from the wing, and the second with an impressive strike from a sharp angle. Norwich had previously taken the lead through Steve Morison, taking advantage of a mistake by Per Mertesacker.
