Defender Lucas Leiva, who suffered a serious knee injury, will not appear on the field this season.
The Brazilian tore his cruciate ligaments, so he will have to undergo surgery. The accident happened in Tuesday's English League Cup match against London's Chelsea, when the player tried to take the ball from his opponent.
This season, Lucas had been showing good athletic form. In his place, Jonjo Shelvey, who had been loaned to the Blackpool club, was brought back to the team.
On Monday, Liverpool will face Fulham in the Premier League matches.
