In the world of Bulgarian football, a new star was born - the Prime Minister Boiko Borisov, who was elected the best player of the country of the year.

In the fans' vote, the politician, who occasionally puts on the jersey of the third league team "Vitosha" from Bistritsa, received 44% of the votes and surpassed Dimitar Berbatov representing "Man Utd" (24%).

The 52-year-old Borisov, who plays in a forward position, did not celebrate such recognition: "It was a protest vote, which means the need to reform Bulgarian football, not that the prime minister is the best player."

He added: "I suggest to the organizers to cancel the results or give the prize to the best young footballer."

Bulgarian football is currently experiencing a crisis: the national team collected only 5 points in the European Championship qualifiers and finished last in the group - the worst result in history. In addition, no club made it to the group stages of the Champions League or Europa League.

It is worth noting that a large part of fans refused to participate in the mentioned elections, and the third place, according to the votes of 8,000 respondents, went to Vasili Lukaev, who plays for the amateur team "Shipka Dragor".
