Jones: three points are more important than my goal (VIDEO) © EuroFootball.com

Manchester United footballer Phil Jones insists that the most important thing was to earn three points, and dedicated his goal celebration to a player who had annoyed one of the coaches, Rene Meulensteen.

The nineteen-year-old played as a centre back in the match against Aston Villa, but returned to his natural position in defense halfway through the second half, replacing Rio Ferdinand with Ryan Giggs.

"I'm very happy with the goal, but it's not the most important thing," said Jones. "The most important thing is that we earned three points, and I think we performed very well. Last week I scored an own goal, so it was nice to score today, even if it was against the opponents. Rene teased me saying I can't score at all, so it's a coincidence that I managed to score."

The team's manager Sir Alex Ferguson joked, "We used to annoy him by saying, 'We paid £16 million for you, and you can't even hit the goal!' After today, the player will enjoy silencing the coaching staff."
