Strategist Roberto Mancini hopes for a successful performance from his players in the UEFA Europa League tournament.
The leader of the English championship withdrew from the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, despite beating Bayern Munich 2-0 in the last match.
"I think the Europa League is important for the Man City team because we need to win trophies," said the Italian. "It's not the Champions League, but still significant."
He continued: "If we reach the final, it will be good. The Europa League is more difficult because the matches are played on Thursdays and there is not enough time to recover before the weekend games. But that will be the only difference.
"In the Champions League, we played for the first time and ended up in a tough group, but it's strange not to reach the quarterfinals with 10 points. We are disappointed, so I apologize to the club, fans, and players, as I believe we deserved to go further. We hope for a better performance next year."
