Champions League favorites Madrid and await the drawing of the round of 16, which will take place on Friday at 14:00 Lithuanian time.
These are the only remaining representatives from Spain, who will join two English clubs from London: Chelsea and Arsenal. Meanwhile, Man Utd and Man City sensationally ended their campaigns in the first stage.
Italy wiped the floor with these countries, still having three clubs: 2010 champion Inter Milan, seven-time winner Milan, and Napoli, who will make their debut in the knockout stages. Germany, France, and Russia each have two representatives.
The biggest surprise was presented by Nicosia's APOEL, who will be accompanied by Lisbon's Benfica and Basel, who upset Man Utd. The first leg matches will be played on February 14-15, and the second leg on 21-22.
Each club received approximately 10 million euros for reaching this stage, not including revenue from television broadcasts. Additional money will be paid for reaching further stages.
Last season, Man Utd earned the most, with 53.2 million euros. This year, they will have to settle for almost half that amount, and focus on the Europa League tournament.
In the round of 16, teams from the same group or the same country cannot face each other. The clubs that finished first in their groups are Bayern Munich, Inter, Benfica, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal, APOEL, and Barcelona.
The clubs that finished second in their groups are Napoli, CSKA Moscow, Basel, Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen, Marseille, Zenit, and Milan.
