One of the leaders, London's "Chelsea," disappointingly dropped points by playing a 1-1 draw away with "Wigan" who are in the relegation zone.
The guests took the lead after Daniel Sturridge scored a goal in the 59th minute after a pass from Ashley Cole. It seemed that Andre Villas-Boas' team would secure another victory, but in the 87th minute Jordi Gomez equalized after a mistake by goalkeeper Petr Cech.
In the remaining time, "Chelsea" couldn't change the score and might lose the third position on the league table if London's "Tottenham" defeats "Sunderland" on Sunday. Additionally, "Arsenal" might surpass the capital's club, as they have a match against "Man City."
"Newcastle," who had a successful start to the season, couldn't get out of the rut and only managed a 0-0 draw at home with "Swansea." The "Magpies" have not won in their last five matches but temporarily moved up to sixth place in the league table.
Despite having good opportunities, both Fabricio Coloccini and Demba Ba hit the crossbar, and Jonas Gutierrez's shot missed the goalpost. Ba also missed another chance, while on the other side, Scott Sinclair's shot posed a threat.
"Blackburn" manager Steve Kean continues to endure difficult days, as the team, sitting in 19th place on the league table, lost 1-2 at home to "West Bromwich."
Meanwhile, "Bolton" in last place suffered their twelfth consecutive defeat. Owen Coyle's team lost 0-2 to "Fulham" in London.
