Doctors are pessimistic about the possibility of David Villa returning to the field this season. Additionally, the Spaniard may miss the upcoming European Championship.
The forward broke his shinbone in the semifinals of the world club championship. One of the doctors who performed the operation, Ramon Cugat, said: "The chances of him returning this season are not high, but we cannot rule it out."
His colleague Ricard Pruna added: "The operation went fantastically well. He was texting with colleagues and laughing with his wife. I have never seen someone in such high spirits after surgery."
He continued: "Some players have to end their career after such fractures. We hope that David will recover in time for the European Championship, but it is doubtful whether he will make it to the Champions League final. Predicting a date would probably be a mistake - everything will depend on Villa's leg."
