The coaches of the African national teams named Yaya Toure the best player of the continent in 2011. The 28-year-old member of the Ivory Coast national team defeated the Barcelona midfielder from Mali, Seydou Keita, and the Ghanaian striker Andre Ayew, who plays for Marseille.
"This is the biggest award I can receive in my career," said Toure. "Unbelievable. I am very happy and proud."
The best player playing in Africa was recognized as Oussama Darragi from Esperance, and the most promising player - Souleymane Coulibaly, who wears Tottenham's jersey in London.
Toure will participate in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament taking place in Gabon and Guinea from January 21 to February 12.
"Very important matches for both me and my country will start soon. I hope we can win the title," said the defender.
