Machačkalos leaders were interested in stars like Guus Hiddink or Fabio Capello, but they appointed a much less known Jurij Krasnožanas as the new head coach.
The former Moscow "Lokomotiv" coach signed a five-year contract and will lead a team where stars like Roberto Carlos and Samuel Eto'o play.
The 48-year-old specialist will replace Andrej Gordejev and Roberto Carlos, who temporarily coached the team after Gadji Gadzhiyev was fired.
"I thank the leaders of "Anzhi" for their trust," said Krasnožanas. "This club has recently become one of the most popular - not only in Russia, but also throughout Europe."
"Anzhi," currently in seventh place in the national championship, is owned by Suleiman Kerimov, who ranks 118th on the list of the world's richest individuals. He spares no money on football: Eto'o's salary reaches 10 million euros per year."
