Cheering on the fans with an impressive game, football players constantly risk their health.
The second day of Christmas was particularly unlucky for Gillingham's English League Four club defender Chris Whelpdale - he suffered a groin injury. The incident occurred when the 22-year-old defender tried to take the ball from his opponent.
"It's a terrible injury," said coach Andy Hessenthaler. "Very nasty. He was in a lot of pain, and his wife probably won't be very happy."
It is doubtful whether Whelpdale will be able to help the team in Friday's match against Dagenham & Redbridge.
