During the January transfer window, Arsenal will seek to borrow a defender to help fill the gaps left after Thomas Vermaelen's injury.
The Belgian injured his calf in Saturday's match against Queens Park Rangers and will be unable to play for up to three weeks.
"We will look for reinforcements, but only on a loan basis. It would be foolish to drop points just because we don't have a left-back," said manager Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal is currently in 17th place after five rounds in the English Premier League, but ended the year in fourth position. However, good results are being hampered by injuries: Vermaelen, as well as nominal left-backs Andre Santos and Kieran Gibbs, and Bacary Sagna and Carl Jenkinson are all sidelined.
It was previously reported that Arsenal is interested in Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge.
