Lisbon took advantage of the opportunity to extend the contract with striker Javier Saviola until 2013.
The Argentine, who previously represented the Madrid Real and Barcelona clubs, had his current contract set to expire after this season.
At the moment, the 30-year-old Saviola is the highest paid footballer in Portugal. His salary amounts to 5 million euros per year.
In the national championships, the "Benfica" player scored four goals in over 10 matches. Last season, he managed to defeat opponents' goalkeepers nine times in 24 matches.
