They rejected the possibility of appealing against the disqualification of eight matches imposed on forward Luis Suarez. Nevertheless, the club continues to defend the Uruguayan, who was accused of making racist remarks to "Man Utd" defender Patrice Evra.

The incident occurred on October 15 in a match between the teams in Liverpool. During an argument between these footballers, according to the conclusions of a 115-page investigation, Suarez degraded Evra by referring to his skin color. The Frenchman claimed to have heard about ten insulting words, but no one could confirm this from those who were on the field, as they were too far away.

An appeal could have been made within two weeks, and until it was considered, the imposed punishment could not take effect and the forward could continue playing. It is believed that the decision not to appeal was made because they did not expect the sanctions to be mitigated.

Furthermore, Suarez did not play in the match against "Man City" on Tuesday and should return to the field in the crucial match against "Man Utd" on the 11th of February.

In their press release, the 'Reds' stated: "We firmly believe that the Football Association and the committee that made the decision created this biased case based on unfounded evidence. This case became an example of how a competitor-player can lead to a strict punishment for a top-level player based solely on his accusation.

"Mr. Evra was considered a reliable witness, although he himself admitted to using insulting and threatening words towards Suarez. The conclusions state that Suarez is "most likely" guilty, but despite rejecting other evidence, a quarter-season suspension was imposed on him."

And it is added: "The club fully supports the fight against racism in both sports and other spheres, but in this case, it supports the punished player because it was not convinced that he committed a racist attack on that or any other day."
