Xavi insists that in order to become a good footballer, talent is much more important than physical attributes.
The maestro of the Spanish national team is of a small height of 170 cm and does not stand out with muscle mass, but for the third year in a row he is among the top three candidates to become the best football player of the year on the planet.
"Talent is a crucial factor in football, much more important than physical attributes. I am convinced that technical abilities determine everything," Xavi told "Sport".
"In 2002 or 2003, people told me that I was not cut out to play in the midfield because this position requires physical strength. I proved that you can become an excellent midfielder even without it."
Xavi will be named FIFA player of the year, his teammate Lionel Messi or Real Madrid's leader Cristiano Ronaldo. The winner, chosen by national team coaches, captains, and journalists, will be announced on January 9.
