Mancini: Proud of my pupils (VIDEO) © EuroFootball.com

Strategist Roberto Mancini praised his players despite the loss to "Man Utd" club.

In the third round of the FA Cup, the leaders of the "Premier" league were defeated at home by their opponents 2-3. It is worth noting that for the majority of the match, the hosts played without defender Vincent Kompany, who received a controversial red card.

"I am proud of my players' performance. It wasn't easy, but we played well, so I am very happy," said Mancini. "I don't want to talk about the refereeing, but I am 300% convinced that Kompany did not deserve a red card."

The Italian admitted that during the break, when "Man Utd" was leading 3-0, the emphasis was on not conceding more goals and looking for gaps in the opponents' defense.

"Firstly, we didn't want to let the opponents score more, and secondly, we set a goal to take advantage of set-pieces and counterattacks. We did well in the second half because "Man Utd" did not create any chances, which is not easy when you are playing with ten men against such an opponent," the specialist said.

He added: "At the moment, we have big problems because some players are injured. It would be fair if Kompany could play in the "Carling" Cup match against "Liverpool" because he was sent off for nothing tonight."

"Man City" plans to appeal Kompany's dismissal.
