The man who attacked the referee during the 2008 European Championship qualifying match will have to pay a fine of 1.87 million Danish kroner (about 868 thousand litas).

The initial decision was made by the court back in 2009, obligating the culprit to pay 900 thousand kroner, but after he appealed, the Supreme Court doubled the fine.

The incident occurred in June 2007 during a match between the Danish and Swedish national teams. Due to the attack, where a hooligan ran onto the field and hit the German referee Herbert Fandel, the match was interrupted, and Sweden was awarded a 3-0 technical victory.

In the final minutes of the match, the score was tied 3-3, but the referee removed the Danish player Christian Poulsen, who had hit an opponent in the stomach, and awarded a penalty kick to the Swedes, sparking a tumultuous reaction from the fans.
